The Bean Book is an innovative web-based tool crafted through the collaborative efforts of the ADC and the Agtuall team, with the generous support of the Rabo Foundation. This cutting-edge solution is strategically designed to confront and overcome the complex challenges encountered by cooperatives and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the Ugandan coffee sector. The Bean Book integrates over three key functional modules to assist users in navigating the multifaceted landscape of the coffee industry:
- Market Module: This component of Bean Book serves as a rich repository of coffee market intelligence, offering users up-to-date information on coffee prices, production statistics, and pertinent weather updates. It provides a real-time snapshot of the market, enabling users to make informed decisions aligned with current trends and conditions.
- Risk Module: The second module is an intricate simulator for financial decision-making, offering a practical understanding of potential gains and losses associated with hedging through futures contracts. It also furnishes crucial insights into managing the net open position, equipping users with the skills to navigate the volatile market and mitigate financial risks effectively.
- Transaction Module: The third key component of the Bean Book tool is the Transaction Module, which is meticulously designed to provide critical functionality for financial management within the coffee sector. This module aids users in evaluating the sales price of their coffee contracts, enabling them to benchmark their pricing against the current market conditions. By doing so, it allows them to gauge whether they are getting a fair market value for their commodities.
